How to pass the Nevada knowledge test
- Read the handbook. Every question comes from the official Nevada manuals; the handbook page links to the agency's own copies.
- Practice test by test. Each numbered test mixes Nevada law with the national road rules, like the real exam.
- Read every explanation. Especially for answers you got right by guessing.
- Simulate the real exam on the category page when you pass the tests comfortably.
Nevada written test format
| Test | Questions | Pass mark | Minimum age |
|---|---|---|---|
| Car | 25 | 20 correct (5 mistakes allowed) | 15 years 6 months for an instruction permit; 16 years for a driver license |
| Motorcycle | 25 | 20 correct (5 mistakes allowed) | 15 years 6 months for a motorcycle instruction permit; 16 years for a Class M license |
| CDL | 50 | 40 correct (10 mistakes allowed) | 18 years for intrastate commerce; 21 years for interstate commerce |
Car. The Nevada DMV Driver License Testing page states that the Class C non-commercial knowledge test has 25 multiple-choice questions, that 80 percent or better is a passing score, and that the test stops once the applicant reaches 20 correct answers or six incorrect answers. Applicants under 18 must hold the instruction permit for at least six months.
Motorcycle. The Nevada DMV motorcycle page states that the written motorcycle knowledge test has 25 questions with an 80 percent passing score, which must be passed before scheduling the skills test. Passing a certified motorcycle safety course removes the need for the DMV written and skills tests.
CDL. The Nevada Commercial Driver License Handbook confirms the age rules, that applicants aged 18 to 20 are limited to intrastate commerce and may not carry passengers for hire or placarded hazardous materials, and that a Commercial Learner Permit must be held 14 days before the skills test. Neither the handbook nor the DMV CDL pages publish the item count or pass mark for the general knowledge test, so the 50 questions and 80 percent shown here follow the common federal standard and are listed as unconfirmed.
